Essential German Grammar is a student-friendly German grammar designed to give learners a firm foundation on which to build when developing their communicative skills. This checklist is specifically geared for those writing/grammar concepts that are essential to correct German writing. It has a somewhat unusual shape for a German verb but it isn't anything German grammar couldn't handle (haha). Now, in recent years Germans have started to say phrases like this one: “Das It sounds ugly to my ears and there is one more reason why we should abstain from The Fancy English word in this case: It is very easy to confuse it with another essential German verb: “handeln” – to act. Grammar books: Grammar for post 16 students (in both languages), then I moved on to French Grammar in Context and Essential German Grammar. I set up the page (Moodle calls them “courses”) in weekly sections with the resources we'd used in class; practice tasks to consolidate the grammar, and home works which they had to send in to me to mark online before the next club session. I do think that the Michel Thomas tapes are good, as they teach you basic grammar, not just phrases, and that if you really want to make progress, you should go to Germany and do an immersion course. Essential German Grammar by Guy Stern, Everett F. German-grammar.de provides a good overview of essential grammatical topics, as well as some discussions of more advanced issues. Includes audio of all examples.
